The 22-year-old Swedish strength athlete Elias Engquist has set a new world record in the strict biceps curl after lifting 114.25 kilograms in a competition. A video clip of the lift is available alongside the article.
The lift was performed in the discipline Strict barbell curl, where the upper body is kept still against a support, meaning only the biceps can be used to complete the movement. This makes it significantly stricter than a regular curl, where swinging and momentum can otherwise help lift the weight. Engquist’s performance has attracted attention within the powerlifting and fitness community and has been widely shared on social media.
Big congratulations to Elias! I’m really looking forward to seeing him in upcoming competitions.
